FAQ

We believe in transparency from the start. Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions landowners have about working with ReGen. If you don’t see your question answered here, we’re happy to discuss it directly.

Getting Started

Every engagement begins with a consultation to discuss your needs and objectives. During this conversation, we’ll assess your situation, answer your questions, and determine if ReGen’s services are a good fit.

If we move forward, we’ll provide a detailed proposal outlining the scope of work, deliverables, timeline, and compensation. Once we execute a formal agreement that sets clear expectations for both parties, we begin work.

Absolutely. One-off consultations are within our scope of work. Whether you need specific guidance on a single issue or a comprehensive long-term engagement, we tailor our services to fit your needs.

We’re willing to work with landowners who have as few as 20 acres. For properties smaller than 20 acres, we evaluate requests on a case-by-case basis depending on the client’s specific needs and project scope.

We’ll first have a consultation to discuss your needs. The specific documentation required depends on the project, but commonly includes property deeds, previous surveys if available, tax records, and any existing management plans or reports.
We’ll guide you through what’s needed once we understand your objectives.

Services & Pricing

We use a combination of pricing structures depending on the service: flat fees for defined projects, hourly or monthly rates for ongoing work, retainer agreements for continuous access to consulting services, and commission-based fees for certain operational services.

Each proposal clearly outlines the pricing structure and what’s included. Our goal is transparency—you’ll know exactly what you’re paying for and why.

For certain projects, yes. This depends on the scope and nature of the work. We’ll discuss payment terms during the proposal stage so everything is clear before we begin.

For established clients, we bill on a monthly cycle. For project-based work, invoicing follows the terms outlined in the agreement.

We’ve accommodated this in certain special cases, but generally refrain from this payment structure. If your situation requires flexibility, we’re happy to discuss options during the consultation.
We serve both types of clients. While our preference is to work with clients in ongoing engagements—as forests require long-term attention—we also provide one-time services when that’s what the situation calls for.

The Process

Timelines vary by service and property complexity. As a general guide:
Land Management Plans: 4-8 weeks from site visit to final plan delivery Forest Analytics: 3-6 weeks depending on property size Compliance Auditing: 2-4 weeks from inspection to report delivery
Your proposal will include a specific timeline tailored to your project.

In most cases, yes. Thorough forest management and analysis typically require multiple site visits across different seasons or project phases. One-time visits do occur on a case-by-case basis, depending on the project scope.

We use a combination of approaches: working with you to assess historical access routes, reviewing historical imagery and data, and reaching out to relevant parties who may be able to grant access. We’re experienced in handling properties with unique access challenges.

This generally falls outside our line of work. ReGen operates in a methodical and calculated manner to ensure quality and accuracy. Rushed work compromises the analytical rigor that defines our approach.

Service Area & Scope

For forest consulting services, our primary service area extends approximately 120 miles from Lufkin, Texas. This includes much of East Texas and surrounding regions.
For data and financial analysis and strategic consulting services, we serve clients across the United States and internationally.
ReGen focuses on consulting, analysis, and strategic guidance. For operational work such as logging, tree planting, site preparation, or equipment-intensive activities, we work with trusted subcontractors who we oversee on your behalf.
This approach maintains our independence and ensures you’re getting objective recommendations rather than advice driven by operational profit margins.

Absolutely. We’re happy to engage with other professionals to support their needs and yours. Forest management often intersects with estate planning, tax strategy, and legal considerations—collaboration produces better outcomes.

We’re willing to engage in this work on a case-by-case basis. If you need expert testimony or litigation support related to forestry matters, contact us to discuss your specific situation.

Understanding Forest Management

The forestry profession has changed profoundly over the last twenty years due to evolving economics and market demands. Old business models based solely on commission from timber sales are becoming historical relics.
More importantly, landowner goals have shifted. Many now prioritize recreation, aesthetics, wildlife habitat, and legacy values alongside—or even above—timber revenue. Professional consulting has evolved to address this complexity, which requires a more strategic, tailored approach than traditional commission-based services could provide.
Many landowners underestimate the value a professional forest consultant provides. While there’s no shortage of information available online or through AI programs, forests are complex, long-lived systems that require active management to remain healthy and productive.
Good stewardship often requires expertise beyond what can be read on the internet. Forest operations—both silvicultural treatments and harvest activities—involve many moving parts, contract negotiations, regulatory compliance, and market timing. A consultant’s job is to protect your interests, coordinate these complexities, and work strategically to achieve your stated objectives.
The reality is that well-executed management typically pays for itself through improved outcomes, avoided mistakes, and better market positioning.
ReGen takes an analytical, methodical approach to every engagement. We gather information, process it thoroughly, and implement strategic solutions designed to achieve your specific goals.
As an independent consulting firm, we maintain complete transparency. We don’t broker timber sales, sell equipment or seedlings, or represent outside interests. Our recommendations serve only your objectives—whether that’s maximizing financial returns, enhancing wildlife habitat, ensuring compliance, or planning for the next generation.
Our firm has Accredited Consulting Foresters with over a decade of experience managing everything from small family forests to large institutional portfolios. That combination of expertise, independence, and personal attention defines the ReGen approach.
